Grant County Invite a Success
The Ryle Men's XC team ran in their first meet of the season. Joey S, Cameron S, Tyler H, Jordan R, Will S, Greyson L, Logan W, Hunter K (front), and Ryan D represented the varsity team.
The Meet
Everyone arrived early and checked in to the tent area. Thank you to the parent administrators (Kelly D and Brandi K) and volunteers for organizing the group. Varsity ran during a overcast nice morning while JV got the hottest part of the day with temperatures climbing quickly under the sun. The weather threatened to worsen so the coaching staff made the decision to run everyone in the two mile. Although the weather never materialized, thank you parents for being flexible. Parents helped clean up and took the tents, tables and coolers away. We enjoyed the meet and the team ran well. The coaches were able to gather data on almost everyone. Meets present challenges such as runners getting injured or experiencing challenges on the course, some that may take them out of the race. We didn't have any injuries, but with 41 runners we did have two runners unable to finish. Again, please volunteer to help us get mile splits and also to stay with the tent to welcome any struggling athlete (of course not during your son's race).Performances Top 10 HS
Take a look at the numbers. Let's see what we can learn or at least what questions we can start asking. Informed conversations may start from the numbers above. This was our first meet and lots of butterflies and nerves are now out. A race is a performance, thus learning how to perform differs from person to person. Again, Look over and don't overthink it, but do

Training Lessons and Week 9/3 Outlook
We've worked more on developing the athletes' VO2Max capacity. Many runners do not run mileage out of season so we've been in the pre-competitive phase of training. During this phase we've run longer hills, completed longer repetitions, and done a few flying 30's. Our long runs we've done with the team. As we transition into the pre-competitive (competitive 1) phase we'll start more lactate threshold and progression runs. Athletes will be responsible for their long runs (MS 3-5 miles, HS 6-10 miles) on their own. This responsibility is huge and failure to complete them faithfully will become obvious at performances. All athletes need watches for practice. Coach Echeverria spoke to the group about working hard and completing the training to their best of their ability. There should be no walking. If an athlete cannot maintain continuous running then he should speak to coaches so that we can break the session into intervals and repetitions.
Tuesday (9/4) we have our fourth 3200 meter trial. We need these numbers to determine training paces. Coach Echeverria will adjust the pace groups. Some of the groups have 20-50 seconds between them and it might be too much. The best results are for those groups with only 15 seconds.
