Mason County Indoor Meet #1
Ryle competed in the first indoor meet of the season at the Mason County Indoor Meet. We all gained helpful experience and some of us even learned a few tough lessons. It was an early start, but Dominic Caggiano wins the honor of being the first athlete at the meet. A big thank you goes out to Mr. Caggiano and all the parents for transporting our athletes. It’s a lot to ask of our families and we appreciate the dedication.
Jake Chisholm led the team with a 2nd place long jump of 19-01.25 (5.82m) and 3rd place time of 6.92 seconds in the 55 meter sprint. Senior Jeremy Pendleton showed the team how it’s done. He’s recovering from an injury but competed in four events, besting our throwers in shot put and earning 4th place in high jump. Tyler Beck couldn’t finish his race, but his contributions to the team didn’t end with his event. He helped one of our youngest runners prepare for his debut on the track. Nice form on the 55 meter sprint Cody Donohoo. And great to see the leadership from our seniors. That’s what we want from our upper classmen!
The take away from the weekend is form. Coach Echeverria praised the runners on their technique. Let’s continue to emphasize the A-form, the times and medals will follow. That said, it was apparent from the races that we need more endurance work. Everyone can benefit from logging some mileage. Use your off time to run a little extra, a few miles, and some core workouts. Also, high school athletes should invest in weight training. Football players are doing their bodies and sprint times right, weight training produces power, and that means moving quicker across the track.
