XC Team in the Mix for State Teams
Lexington Catholic Cross Country Invite
The race at the Horse Park is special because it gives the runners and their teams a glimpse of the State Meet. Temperatures climbed into the mid 80's and everyone took notice and their times reflected the conditions. Still, everyone ran under the same conditions and we're able to compare for the sake of evaluation. Our young men all ran well.
One important take-away is that we placed 5th among the teams in our region, and that is not too bad given that our region dominated the top. While top 5 in the teams from our region may not sound very impressive, consider that in our first meet against the same field we finished 7th. Only the top 5 teams in our region or possibly only the top 4 will advance to State.
We are in the mix for those coveted top 4 or 5 positions. The team continues to improve and we missed out of 4th in our region teams by a handful of points. Our young men are training hard to become the difference for the team. Parents proudly share stories of their sons running on Sunday and of their adherence to a more intentional eating regiment. Everyone is training hard and you should all be proud of their dedication. We lost 4 of the scoring 5 from last year and the task of rebuilding creates opportunities. Keep supporting the team events and encourage your sons to speak with the coaching staff with concerns and ideas. As we approach the Conference and Region races decisions must be made, some different than those made up to this point. Keep in mind that some young but competitive runners have given their spot up to older runners. These opportunities provided runners with a chance to prove their speed and to earn a spot among the top ten. Now we must start running the top ten.
Times for LexCath - top ten in yellow
Middle School XC
Some middle school runners asked the coaching staff for an opportunity to run at State on Oct 20th. After some consideration and good conversations with between the staff and runners we proposed that a top 3 finish as a team and commitment by the runners to run at the meet could earn them that chance. Runners spoke to their parents and they can make the meets and those with other commitments (soccer) have agreed to prioritize the State Meet if the team qualifies. They race this Wednesday for a chance to run at State. Coach cancelled the MS participation at LexCath this weekend and changed the training focus to help the runners peak during their Wednesday race. Although they've been registered to run 10/13 that decision will be finalized after Wednesday. MS will compete in the same number of races as originally planned.
Ryle XC Invite 10/20
We had to "cancel" the Ryle XC Invite on the kymilesplit.com website because the date did not give us the most optimal team participation. In other words, we would have to work very hard and lose money. Instead we decided to host a duo meet against a local team that would give us a last race and an opportunity to host a meet. For this day we'll cancel our spaghetti dinner for Thursday, that way we'll all celebrate on Saturday. We need parent help to make this a great end of the season event:
- Course prep-cleanup
- Meet workers
- Senior Night prep
- Cookout workers
- Food/Drinks for the Celebration at the end of the meet
Possible Schedule (probably will change):
- 8:30 AM - Elementary Boys/Girls 2K
- 9 AM - MS Race (only if our team does not run at State)
- 10 AM - Girls HS Race
- 11 AM Boys HS Race
- 12 PM Cookout/Senior Celebration
