Indoor Season Successful and Fun!

Indoor Season Successful and Fun!

Parent Meeting and Indoor Track Recognition Day: March 2nd in the Media Center 5-6:30 PM

How do we measure a successful indoor season? I'll start with the weather. In the past we've been weary of indoor meets when so many have been cancelled. 2017 proved a nice surprise. Feb 4 the outside weather on the way to Mason County was 15deg, Feb 11 32deg, and yesterday 46deg on the way there! I had a great time and already look forward to our first meet in March. Thanks go out to Coach Ehrenberg, Coach Wilson, and Coach Proffitt who worked hard to get the boys ready. On Feb 22nd I'd like to use the parent meeting to also recognize the athletes who competed in indoor track.

Thank you also to all the parents who made the early and long drive to Mason County, then paid $5 to get in, and had to eat concession food. A successful indoor season must have the dedication and support of families and Ryle was well represented. We'll host three outdoor meets this season (March 18, April 20 and April 21). Parents and family we'll need you again.

Indoor season is always difficult for the older athletes because they have so much going on. Still, leaders like Jake Chisholm competed and placed in each of his events. Jeremy Pendleton represented his team in 4 events, and although taxed with an injury Tyler Beck did his best to contribute to the team. Anthony Griffith cleared a PR in pole vault on the third meet, proving that practice matters. Cody Moore gained his confidence in the long jump and pole vault and now will compete for a coveted spot among the Ryle varsity "A" team. Andrew Roe ran an impressive 800m split in the 4x800 on Feb 4th, while Ryan Roth clocked a team leading 1600 meter time. Clayton Lett debuted his track career in indoor meet, and now he is prepared to help our team in outdoor contests. Veteran runner Ben Bloom showed us in the Feb 4th meet his experience and work ethic on the 1600 meter and 4X800 meter race. Sophomores Logan Johnson, Connor Patterson, Andrew Thomis, Mark Renoil, Vincent Harris, Dominic Caggiano, Jordan Reed and others pushed their upperclassmen teammates with impressive results.

Not to be left behind the freshmen class of Takeshi Horie, Tyson Keller, Will Swinehart, Kyle England, and Anthony Pugh travelled to Mason County to learn about their limits. Our middle school runners challenged the freshmen at every meet. And that marks the difference. A successful indoor season prepares the athletes' mind for the outdoor season. For those who could not be at the meets, don't worry we have a long outdoor season. Just remember, some boys have been competing since February and they are hungry!
