Too Cold to Run March 11th

Warm weather smiled on us for the first week of the outdoor track practice.

Our team has begun to take shape. Coach Mike Engler, Head Football Coach, gathered the football team and shared his support for track participation and encouraged the boys. We spoke to the athletes and reiterated our commitment to multi sport participation.

No Track Meet On Saturday March 11th.
Then last week we had a tornado day-off and a lot of rain. This week we've had a nice day, a full practice in cold rain, and potentially our first meet in the snow on Saturday March 11th. The forecast calls for highs of 30 deg and chance of snow. We'll practice in rain but we'll not wait around in freezing weather. We will not compete this weekend (March 11). We want to be competitive but safety demands we be more prudent, and we want the supporting families to enjoy the experience.

Part of that experience is sporting the Ryle track spirit wear. Most of the first order items are in. I still have a box of wear, please have your son come to my room to get his stuff. The second sale items should be here by Tuesday, next week before our first JV outdoor meet. Missed the chance to order? Here is the link for spiritwear, delivery expected by the week before spring break:

By this time next week we'll be preparing for our first track meet. Remember middle school parents, these home meets are important to our season. They provide the financial support we need to coach 120 athletes in a single season. Assignments will be given this Thursday and posted on Twitter. Please work with other parents to cover your assignment if you are unable to be there.  JV runners will run on Wednesday (3/15), MS will compete Friday (3/17), and varsity will compete Saturday, perhaps even a varsity B team.

Lastly, I would like to thank the parents who already volunteered and have started to shape our track program . May will be here before we know it. Be an active member of our track parent group. Your sons will thank you for it. You should see them out there in the rain. I am proud of their dedication and commitment. With this last observation let me encourage you to ask them about practice, to bring track up at dinner, and to push them to improve.

  1. Thanks Coach E! We've seen changes in our son that will greatly impact his future. Thanks for all you do!
